Today I visited the Pikes Peak National Cemetery. Mostly vets, and sometimes their family members are laid to rest there.
As I spent time in that beautiful (and peaceful) locale, I reflected on life and death. I thought about how so many have given their lives on battlefields around the globe for the liberties some of us take for granted.
I also thought about service, loyalty and honor. Giving honor where it is due seems to be a lost art sometimes.
Friends, Memorial Day is an old holiday. It was first celebrated as Decoration Day not long after the Civil War. Over these many decades – and centuries even – the concept has grown and expanded, but the Spirit is the same.
Freedom has come at high cost. We should give honor to those who have fought for it.
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.
